Donna Oakes Founded Alms of Love in February 2016.

"Our home was burgled one Friday evening and the burglars took valuable items such as our passports and tertiary diploma's which were very important to us. As the nature of human beings, we blame people based on their status. I knew of a informal settlement that was close to our home so naturally blamed them for our misfortune. I decided to drive into the community to 'ask a few questions'.  As I drove along the gravel road, I remember clearly  being greeted by a group of dirty faced, barely clothed kids aged 3 to 4 years old and my heart broke. I forgot about why I went and instead was shocked to see how poverty and alcohol had gripped this small community.  I thought, how could I live in a community that was in clear need of help, in need of a intervention, in need of Christ.....the rest is history", Donna says.

I find great fullfillment in what I do. From a small informal settlement we have branched out to communities, providing lunch to schools, soup drives in winter months to the homeless, assisting struggling soup kitchens in the Parkwood Community, assisting struggling families with groceries and delivering cooked meals to senior citizens. With the help of our supportive community we hope to continue to assist the greater Cape Town for the years to come!

Give and it will come back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over...We LIVE by this!
