Donna Oakes Founded Alms of Love in February 2016.
"Our home was burgled one Friday evening and the burglars took valuable items such as our passports and tertiary diploma's which were very important to us. As the nature of human beings, we blame people based on their status. I knew of a informal settlement that was close to our home so naturally blamed them for our misfortune. I decided to drive into the community to 'ask a few questions'. As I drove along the gravel road, I remember clearly being greeted by a group of dirty faced, barely clothed kids aged 3 to 4 years old and my heart broke. I forgot about why I went and instead was shocked to see how poverty and alcohol had gripped this small community. I thought, how could I live in a community that was in clear need of help, in need of a intervention, in need of Christ.....the rest is history", Donna says.
I find great fullfillment in what I do. God has opened so many doors for us. With every dissappointment we stay the course, remain faithful and God does what He does best...PROVIDE!
Give and it will come back to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over...We LIVE by this!
Here are some of our activities done with our beautiful kids. They bring us so much joy...
